ABOUT
KEEP THEM WARM
WHAT WE DO.
LISTEN TO OUR STORY.
Keep Them Warm is an initiative that originated from a dedicated group of students in Leiden. Our primary objective is to deliver essential supplies to the Polish/Ukrainian border, extend humanitarian assistance, and facilitate the transportation of Ukrainian refugees back to the Netherlands while ensuring a secure haven for their stay.
Max Boogaard, initiator of Keep Them Warm, recently spoke on the podcast 'Voordat de Bom Valt'! In this episode he talked about our initiative and explained what we do, how we do it and what we need from you. The episode is linked below and Max begins our story around the 15th minute!
MISSION & HISTORY.
When the conflict erupted in Ukraine, a wave of concern swept through the student community, marked by a shared sense of helplessness. Many students held a genuine desire to contribute, yet financial constraints limited their ability to make substantial impacts. It was during this time of uncertainty that serendipity brought us into contact with On My Way UA, an organization that assured us of the potential for more significant action. In response, our fledgling initiative took root.
What began as a modest local fundraising effort soon transformed into a dedicated mission, ignited by the enthusiasm of our first group of nine students. Just two weeks after our initial encounter with On My Way UA, this team embarked on a transformative journey to the Polish/Ukrainian border. Their mission encompassed the delivery of essential provisions, including food, hygiene items, and clothing, assisting refugees in crossing the border, and bringing 18 refugees back to the Netherlands—all within the span of a week.
What was initially envisioned as a singular expedition has evolved into a passionate and unwavering commitment. The prospect of a harsh Ukrainian winter, coupled with mounting energy shortages and the fading of the conflict from the headlines, impelled us to launch Keep Them Warm in November 2022. Our central aim is twofold: to provide warmth to the people of Ukraine and to keep the spotlight on the ongoing crisis.
Through our initiative, we aspire to equip a diverse array of students with the resources and knowledge they need to initiate their own impactful endeavors. With upcoming trips already scheduled for January and February, our team of volunteers continues to grow. However, to fulfill our mission, we remain reliant on the generosity of donations. These funds are essential for covering the costs of bus rentals, fuel, and the acquisition of specific supplies in addition to the general items we gather. We deeply appreciate any and all contributions as we persevere in our tireless efforts to raise the necessary funds.
